Abstract

The thoughts of previous scholars cannot always be applied directly to the modern era. However, the concept of Islamic education put forward by Imam Al-Zarnuji is still considered relevant when applied in the current context of Islamic education. This is evident from the many Islamic education experts in Indonesia who still use Al-Zarnuji's thoughts, as contained in his work, as a reference in the learning process. This particular article aims to analyze Imam Al-Zarnuji's thoughts regarding Islamic education and its relevance to modern era education. This research was carried out using a library research method, which focused on exploring Al-Zarnuji's thoughts about Islamic education and its application in the context of modern education. The main source for this research is Al-Zarnuji's book, Ta'lim al-Muta'allim, while secondary sources include supporting literature such as journals, books and other reliable references. The research results show that Al-Zarnuji belongs to the conservative-religious sect, where he emphasizes that the goal of studying must be rooted in religious teachings. He underlined that all students' activities in acquiring knowledge must be based on religious principles. The educational concepts formulated by Al-Zarnuji, such as educational goals, the role of educators, student character, curriculum and learning methods, are still relevant to be applied in Islamic education in the modern era.
