PENDIDIKAN AL-QUR’AN BERBASIS KEARIFAN LOKAL: Sejarah dan Peran Balai Ngaji di Desa Banding Agung

Abstract

The focus of this study is culture-based education as reflected in the traditional Al-Qur'an educational institution Balai Ngaji, in the village of Banding Agung, as one of the traditional villages in Pesawaran District, Lampung Province. This educational institution existed long before the modern education system entered and developed, and continues to exist today with the various obstacles it faces. This research is important to do considering that there have not been many similar studies conducted in the Lampung area, even though Balai Ngaji, on a smaller scale, can be compared to more established traditional Islamic education institutions, such as Surau and Pesantren. The data were obtained through qualitative field research, where the writer not only described the findings in the field in as much detail as possible but also the analysis process using the theoretical basis of the results of literature searches. The results of this study indicate that Balai Ngaji is a traditional educational institution that teaches Al-Qur'an, and contains elements typical of Lampung. Balai Ngaji does not only teach how to read the Al-Qur'an, but also contains local wisdom values, so that indirectly it helps to preserve the customs of the younger generation
